Failure Analysis

Failure analysis is an investigation process that determines the why and how a material or component has failed to perform as expected. Uncovering the root cause of failures can then prevent future occurrences. 

​Tests conducted during a failure investigation include:

•  Visual Examination looking for any fractured surfaces and any obvious damage

• Material Characterization determining that the failed component was made from the correct material using Chemical Analysis* to verify its composition

• Facture Surface Analysis noting any dimpled surfaces, cracking, voids and signs of fatigue or stress using microscopes. 

•  Mechanical Testing measuring how the material behaves after applying forces and stresses to exceed material strength and  breakage.
